Despite the delay, Netflix's programming executive Cindy Holland assures fans that the new season would be 'bigger' and 'better.'

AceShowbiz - Netflix has confirmed the long-rumored delay of season 3 of "Stranger Things. The upcoming season of the hit sci-fi series will not arrive until summer 2019. The streaming giant's programming executive Cindy Holland explained the reason for the delay at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Sunday, July 29.

"It's a handcrafted show. [Exec producers] The Duffer brothers and Shawn Levy have worked really hard, and they understand the stakes are high," Holland told reporters. "They want to deliver something bigger and better than what they did last year. And so they really want to take the time to get it right."

Despite the delay, she assured fans that the new season would be worth the wait, adding that it would have more special effects work than the previous seasons. "It's a really exciting season, just takes a little more time," she shared.

Judging by previously-released teaser, the new season apparently would introduce a new setting. Taking in the form of an advertisement, the footage took viewers to the Starcourt Mall, a new mall which is just opening in Hawkins, Indiana.

The promo also offered a glimpse of new character played by Maya Thurman-Hawke. Maya's Robin was seen behind the cash register at ice cream shop Scoop Ahoy with Steve (Joe Keery). She later awkwardly promoted the ice cream, exclaiming, "Ahoy!"

Stars Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard and Gaten Matarazzo will return for season 3, reprising their roles as Eleven, Mike and Dustin respectively. Caleb McLaughlin, Winona Ryder, Noah Schnapp, Cars Buono, Dacre Montgomery, Sadie Sink, David Harbour and Natalia Dyer will also reprise their respective roles in the highly-anticipated new season.
