Admitting that he's 'bummed' about his co-star's exit, Reedus reveals he and Lincoln once made a promise to leave the show together if one of them quit.

AceShowbiz - One by one, the original cast members of "The Walking Dead" have been leaving the show. The latest to confirm his exit was Andrew Lincoln, whose character Rick Grimes has been considered a leader of the group of survivors on the AMC series.

As if the British actor's departure is not saddening enough for fans, it turns out that it could have been a lot worse. Speaking on EW Radio, Norman Reedus, who was joined by Lincoln, revealed that he and his co-star once made a promise to leave the show together if one of them quit.

"We made a pact," Reedus said. "I think it was like season 3 or 4. We're like, 'If you leave, I leave. Right?' And that was the thing." Lincoln quickly asked his friend, "Are you leaving? Is this an announcement? Is this breaking news?"

Reedus responded, "Oh, hell no," assuring that he will still play Daryl Dixon for an undetermined time for now.

Though he has broken his pact with Lincoln, Reedus is still reeling from the fact that he will never see his best friend again on the set. "He was the first person I saw in the morning. As soon as we wrapped, he immediately called me in the car. We speak all the time. We spent every lunch break in my trailer. We shared a trailer for forever," he shared.

Still, Reedus understands Lincoln's decision as he said, "When he told me he was thinking about doing this, I get it. I have a son in New York, and I'm constantly bouncing back and forth all these nine years to go see him. And I get it. He's got two beautiful children, a beautiful wife. His whole family's awesome, and you can't be mad at him for going. It's very understandable, but I'm going to miss the hell out of him."

While Lincoln no longer has the rights to find out the plot of the upcoming season earlier, he may still get exclusive tidbits about the show as Reedus admitted, "I still sneak him scripts." Lincoln confirmed it, "It's true."

Previously at San Diego Comic-Con, Reedus told ET Online how he felt about Lincoln's exit. "I mean, he's my BFF forever. I'm bummed," he shared. He went on saying that his buddy is irreplaceable. "He's been the leader of this show, and he's definitely the quarterback of this team, always will be," Reedus explained. "His shoes cannot be replaced, and they never will be."

Lincoln will leave the show after the ninth season, which is scheduled to premiere October 7 on AMC.
