The 55-year-old model is now delighted after welcoming her child with husband Mattia Dessi after trying for a decade.

AceShowbiz - Brigitte Nielsen feared she might never become a mother again after a decade of failed fertility treatment.

The Danish model and actress announced she was pregnant with her fifth child at the age of 54 in May, and gave birth to baby girl, Frida, last month.

In an interview with People magazine accompanying new photos of the girl she calls her "little princess", the 55-year-old star revealed that she and her husband, Italian model Mattia Dessi, 39, had been trying for a child since finding love more than a decade ago - but they struggled to conceive despite the star freezing her eggs and undergoing in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment.

"There was a lot of disappointment," she explained. "It's that phone call going, 'It's negative.' It's the waiting. At times you can feel lonely, because a lot of women don't talk to each other about it."

Gushing about her delight, Brigitte added: "My husband and I have been wanting this so much for so many years. I finally have my little princess. Becoming a mother is the most beautiful thing in the world."

Although the new mum had an easy pregnancy and gave birth via a caesarean section, she told People she's "happy tired" after becoming a mother again.

Brigitte already has four adult sons from previous relationships, giving birth to her eldest Julian when she was just 20 and she revealed she wants to be a more hands-on mum now she's more experienced.

"I'm more capable, less frustrated and not afraid," the star added. "I know exactly what I want to do with her and where I'm at in life."
