AceShowbiz - A petition demanding bosses at the Walt Disney Co. rehire "Guardians of the Galaxy" filmmaker James Gunn after firing him on Friday, July 20 has hit over 215,000 signatures.

The film executives dropped Gunn as the director of "Guardians of the Galaxy 3" after a string of offensive Twitter messages he posted between 2008 and 2009 resurfaced.

Fellow director Joe Carnahan shared links to the petition site over the weekend, and Selma Blair urged her follows to sign it - and now thousands are signing on by the hour to support Gunn.

A Disney spokesperson declined to comment on the petition.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" star Dave Bautista was quick to show his support for his director, while castmate Michael Rooker shut down his Twitter account as the drama escalated over the weekend.

Zoe Saldana and Chris Pratt have also addressed the fuss without declaring if they were supporting Gunn's firing or not.
