The Luke Skywalker depicter initially said it was him who wore an orange Vader mask to mock President Trump, but a local newspaper reports that it was another person who's in the costume.

AceShowbiz - Mark Hamill did not go undercover as an orange Vader at San Diego Comic-Con 2018. Fans were led to believe that the "Star Wars" actor was in attendance at the convention this past weekend, but after a little digging it was revealed that Hamill just mind-tricked his fans.

A Twitter user previously shared photos of a man wearing an orange Darth Vader mask and a white T-shirt with the words "Make the Death Star Great Again" written on the back. "I was informed earlier today by a friend that I unknowingly took a photo of @HamillHimself during Comic-Con! Could it be true??" the fan asked, to which Hamill replied, "It's true... ALL of it."

Fans were easily convinced that it was the Luke Skywalker himself who went undercover as the orange Vader as he had earlier hinted at his possible appearance at Comic-Con. Furthermore, the 66-year-old star has been voicing his disdain for President Donald Trump, so it's possible that he combined his political views with his on-screen villain in one costume.

But the San Diego Union-Tribune later disputed the claim on Monday morning, July 23. The local newspaper reported that the orange Vader was not Hamill after all. The newspaper's photographer K. C. Alfred proved it by sharing a photo of the cosplayer in question, James Cherry of Redlands, California, wearing the same costume in 2017.

Being a good sport, Hamill quickly confirmed that it was not him behind the orange Vader mask, which Cherry called "Darth Trump." The actor wrote on Twitter along with a link to the news, "Breaking News: FANS SLAM SHAM-HAM SCAM- Actor Mark Hamill says it was all in good fun & simply a joke meant to playfully mind-trick his fans. He claims (without proof) most people enjoyed his massive San Diego Comic Con-Job!"

He also reacted to a fan who commented on his joke, "At the end of the day, we got pranked by the Joker, and that's all that counts." Hamill responded, "Another satisfied customer... and my work here is done. [heart emojis] U ALL!!! - mh."

Still, there's a possibility that Hamill attended the Comic-Con in other disguises. The actor previously hinted that he might have dressed up as a Stormtrooper at the convention.

He wrote on the post, "#SDCC DAY 3 WISH LIST: A) Don't arouse any suspicions it's me because I'm too short for this costume B) Find that ultra-rare comic book I need to complete my collection C) Get @NathanHamill's autograph (if I can find Booth #1415) D) Find the perfect nacho."

Hamill has yet to clarify whether he ever made an appearance at this year's Comic-Con and if he really wore a Stormtrooper costume at the event.
