AceShowbiz - After it's reported that Hailey Baldwin got engaged to Justin Bieber, people may be dying to know what was Shawn Mendes' reaction to it. The 19-year-old singer, who was briefly romantically linked to the model as recently as May, has talked about the engagement in a new interview.
It appeared that the "Stitches" had nothing but good wishes for Hailey as he reached out to her to congratulate her. "I texted Hailey the day of and I said congrats," he shared on the Australian show "The Project". "That's what it is. I think everybody wants there to be more--there's not."
This is not the first time Shawn has addressed Hailey's romance with the Biebz. Back in June, when the couple was just in the rumor stage, the "In My Blood" crooner said to Canada's ETALK, "I don't know if they're dating or not. I love them both. They're both really awesome people."
Shawn and Hailey were rumored to be dating for some time, but they always insisted that they're just friends. They further fueled the romance rumor by attending the 2018 Met Gala arm-in-arm in May, though Shawn said that they weren't "making our big debut." He continued explaining, "We were both asked to walk by Tommy Hilfiger."
"Obviously Hailey and I are friends, and it was just really cool for me to be able to walk with her because she's a vet and it was my first year, so it kind of took the pressure off a little bit," he added.
Hailey also appeared to reaffirm Shawn's remarks that there were never been romance between them as she didn't hesitate to delete her snaps with Shawn from the annual event when she started dating Justin.
