AceShowbiz - Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first official picture of DC movie "Shazam!". Making its way out via Entertainment Weekly, the photo reveals Zachary Levi's titular character in his full superhero costume as well as his buddy, Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer).
In the image, the alter ego of 14-year-old Billy Batson and his fellow orphan are seen chugging a can of soda outside a convenience store. The costume looks similar to the comic book version which is dominated with red, with a big lighting bolt on the chest area, gold accents on the wrists and around the waist.
"I wanted to keep the shorter cape as a throwback to the original because that's something that sets him apart from Superman or Batman," director David Sandberg explains the costume. "It makes him feel a bit more Golden Age superhero, which is the vibe I'm going for."
Levi's muscular look stands out in the image and it was a result of his hard work in the gym, though some other superheroes achieved the looks with a help from their suits. "I don't know if [the suit is] crazy big if you look at some of the others - look at Batman," Sandberg says.
The film centers on Billy Batson, a streetwise 14-year-old foster kid who befriends comic book superfan Freddy. During a subway ride, Billy encounters a mysterious Wizard (Djimon Hounsou) who has been searching for ages to find the right successor to inherit his powers. He then grants the teen an assortment of abilities, and all it takes is for Billy to say "SHAZAM!"
Asher Angel portrays young Billy Batson, with Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen and Jovan Armand playing members of Billy's foster family. Cooper Andrews and Marta Milans are cast as Billy's foster parents, Victor and Rosa Vasquez, while Mark Strong is tapped as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.
Written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the movie is set to arrive on April 5, 2019 in the United States. The first trailer of the movie is expected to be revealed during DC Films' panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
