AceShowbiz - Director Ava DuVernay has recruited actors Michael K. Williams, Vera Farmiga, and John Leguizamo to lead the cast of her new TV drama Central Park Five.
The Selma filmmaker will write and take charge of the four-part limited series, which will detail the real-life 1989 case of five teenagers from Harlem, New York who were wrongly convicted of a Central Park rape they did not commit.
The youths, Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise, were only able to clear their names in 2014.
The Wire star Williams and Leguizamo have each been cast as two of the kids' fathers, while Oscar nominee Farmiga will play Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Lederer, who served as the lead prosecutor in the controversial cases.
Central Park Five, which will air on Netflix, is set to begin filming in the Big Apple next month, reports Deadline.com.
DuVernay will also serve as an executive producer on the project, as will Oprah Winfrey for her Harpo Films vehicle.
