The fifth installment of the adventure film series will miss its scheduled 2020 release date as Jonathan Kasdan is tapped to replace David Koepp as the writer.

AceShowbiz - Indiana Jones may not be heading back into theaters in 2020. The new installment of the adventure film series, which was originally set to arrive on July 10, 2020, will miss its original release date as the production is also delayed.

According to Variety, shooting for "Indiana Jones V" was supposed to begin in April 2019 in the United Kingdom, but now it has to be pushed back by months, if not a year. Crew members have been informed about this.

The production is delayed as the key members of the creative team have yet to sign off on a finished script. Apparently to fix this issue, they have tapped Jonathan Kasdan ("Solo: A Star Wars Story"), who is also the son of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" scribe Lawrence Kasdan, to replace David Koepp as the writer for "Indiana Jones V", Collider reports.

Koepp, who wrote a previous version of the script, is no longer available to work on the film because of his commitment to another project, Blumhouse's "You Should Have Left", for which he is set to serve as director. Harrison Ford, however, remains attached to reprise his role as the famous fictional archeologist and Steven Spielberg is still set to return behind the lens.

While there have been rumors that Ford's titular character will pass the baton to a younger character, Spielberg has promised that he wouldn't kill off Jones in the fifth movie. "The one thing I will tell you is I'm not killing off Harrison [Ford] at the end of it," he told The Hollywood Reporter in June 2016.

Spielberg also defended Ford from critics who said the actor is too old to play Indiana Jones. "As Harrison matures so does his character and yet he did so many of his own stunts in 'The Force Awakens'," the director told New York Daily News, "He keeps himself in such brilliant physical shape that I don't believe when 2018 comes around, which is when I'm slated to direct the fifth installment coming out in 2019, I think Harrison is going to be able do a lot of what the script is asking him to do. We're not concerned about that at all."
