'He's a great guy, great musician, but why is he in 'Game of Thrones'?' the actor says of the British singer in a new interview.

AceShowbiz - Game of Thrones star Kristian Nairn was not a fan of Ed Sheeran's cameo on the show, insisting there's no need for guest spots.

Sheeran played a soldier in a critically-mauled scene, which many fans felt was unnecessary, and now Nairn, who plays Hodor on the show tells HuffPost he agrees with them.

"I'm not a fan of the cameos in Game of Thrones, I don't like them," he says. "I think it's stupid. I don't mind going on the record on that. I just think it takes you right out of the world.

"Especially Ed Sheeran. I was like, 'Why is Ed Sheeran here?' I mean, Ed Sheeran’s great. He's a great guy, great musician, but why is he in Game of Thrones?".

The singer popped up in the premiere episode of season seven and had a line in a scene opposite Maisie Williams.

"I'm not saying I'm not a fan of Ed Sheeran," Nairn clarified. "I’m being tactful here, but just not a fan of the cameo. I think most people would agree with me there. It was a big snap to reality".

Sheeran isn't the only celebrity Game of Thrones fan who has popped up on the show - Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody and Coldplay's Will Champion have appeared, as have members of Sigur Ross and Mastodon.
