AceShowbiz - Aside from the many casting changes for the upcoming season 9 of "The Walking Dead", fans actually haven't learned much about what to expect from the new season storylines. Fortunately, showrunner Angela Kang has addressed what's to come when she took the stage at the AMC Summit on Tuesday, June 20.

"We're playing with time in the season, so we get to jump forward in the story," she said during a "Kick-Ass Women of AMC" panel, confirming that season 9 will indeed follow the events of Robert Kirkman's comic book series in which the narrative jumped forward two years following the end of the "All-Out War" arc between Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

"We're working on a season that has a really fresh look and feel," she continued. "We come in on some pretty fun stuff. I'm really focusing a lot on the core character relationships in the show that have kind of been long-lasting, as well as all of our wonderful series regulars."

She also noted that the season would include "some really great stories" for the women on the show, including Enid (Katelyn Nacon), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Carol (Melissa McBride). The audience will also get a new look at Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh). "I think we're gonna see Anne in a way that people will be very surprised by, seeing a different aspect of her character," Kang added.

This arrives after Jon Bernthal was confirmed to return for the ninth season of the zombie apocalypse series. The "Fury" actor will appear in one episode of the season, reprising his role as Shane Walsh. Meanwhile, Lincoln will reportedly exit the show during season 9. He is said to appear in only a half dozen episodes of the season. Cohan is also said to be leaving the show as her ABC show "Whiskey Cavalier" gets picked up for midseason.
