The 'Melrose Place' alum reportedly acted erratically and physically lashed out at her mother and father, prompting them to call emergency services.

AceShowbiz - Embattled actress Heather Locklear was reportedly hospitalised for a psychiatric evaluation on Sunday, June 17, after allegedly threatening to harm herself.

Sources tell TMZ.com the former Dynasty star's parents headed over to her California home to comfort her as she had become agitated, but she began acting erratically and is said to have physically lashed out at her mother and father, prompting them to call emergency services.

Officials from the Ventura County Fire and Sheriff's Departments responded to the call and raced to Locklear's property, where she was reportedly trying to find a gun to shoot herself.

The 56-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital for a mental evaluation.

Representatives for Locklear have yet to comment on the news, but Captain Garo Kuredjian of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office has confirmed authorities were dispatched to the same block where the actress lives.

Without identifying the star directly, he told People.com, "At that location we contacted a person who had medical needs, and they were treated by the Ventura County Fire Department, and they were later transported to a local hospital."

Locklear was not armed, and as a result the case was simply treated as a medical incident, according to the publication.

"There was no criminal activity," Captain Kuredjian continued. "The person was not arrested."

Locklear has been in and out of headlines in recent months - she was charged with four counts of misdemeanour battery on an officer and one misdemeanour count of resisting or obstructing an officer following an altercation in February, when she reportedly attacked cops who intervened in a fight between Heather and her boyfriend, Chris Heisser.

Reports suggest she subsequently entered a rehabilitation facility to tackle her history of substance abuse issues.
