The 'Roseanne' star insists her offensive tweet about Valerie Jarrett, an adviser to former U.S. President Barack Obama, was actually a condemnation of anti-Semitism.

AceShowbiz - Roseanne Barr has insisted her controversial "Planet of the Apes" tweet was about anti-Semitism.

The actress' revived TV series "Roseanne" was canned by ABC network executives in late May after she posted an offensive message on Twitter about Valerie Jarrett, an adviser to former U.S. President Barack Obama, describing her as the result of the "Muslim brotherhood" and "planet of the apes having a baby".

While Roseanne has apologised for her words and claimed that she was tweeting while under the influence of sleep medication Ambien, she took to the social media platform once again on Thursday, June 14 to claim that her racist tweet was actually a condemnation of anti-Semitism.

"Rod Serling wrote Planet of The Apes. It was about anti-Semitism. That is what my tweet referred to - the anti Semitism of the Iran deal," she wrote, apparently referring to U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to pull out of a nuclear agreement with Iran. "Low IQ ppl (people) can think whatever they want."

She went on to state that she has now watched "Malcolm X: An Overwhelming Influence On The Black Power Movement", documentary about African-American Muslim minister and human rights activist Malcolm X, and was going to meet with the film's director, Thomas Muhammad.

"Thomas Muhammad has agreed to speak for me, as he knows the work I have done in civil rights against racism ALL MY LIFE & understands my tweet was about Iran's regime, not race," the 65-year-old shared.

Roseanne then sent a string of tweets in which she emphasised that she did not have racist views and has been using her time to "reflect" on what she said. In a now-deleted Twitter message, she shared that she has been listening to Kanye West's latest album, and added that her racism drama has taken a toll on her wellbeing.

"My mind went into deep shock and my body too. I see clearly now," she wrote. "I have developed a bit of palsy in my head and hands due to the stress I have lived thru - I sleep alot now - without ambien too, thank GOD!! Goodnight - we are winning! don't give up! PEACE is coming! My faith is stronger today than ever before (sic). I have faith in the American people to free their minds & unite."
