The former 'Happy Days' star reveals that he is grateful 'to both the LAPD and the District Attorney’s office for their thoughtful investigation.'

AceShowbiz - Scott Baio has thanked the Los Angeles District Attorney for investigating claims he sexually assaulted former co-star Nicole Eggert and choosing not to prosecute.

Eggert accused the former Happy Days star of molesting her multiple times on the set of 1980s sitcom Charles in Charge when she was a minor, but Baio maintains he only had sex with the actress once, after she turned 18.

On Wednesday, May 23, an official representing the District Attorney reportedly told Eggert he found her claims "credible", but the statute of limitations governing such allegations had run out, and therefore there would be no prosecution.

Baio tells The Blast he is grateful "to both the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department) and the District Attorney’s office for their thoughtful investigation", and pleased with the "rapid statement from the DA's office disavowing" the claims.

A representative for Baio reveals the actor is "looking forward to being vindicated based on the facts", but vows, "Nicole Eggert will be held accountable for her untrue and defamatory claims."

Following Wednesday's decision, Eggert to TMZ, "I always knew this case was beyond statutes of limitations and unfortunately the D.A. would not be able to prosecute Scott Baio. However, I also knew the importance of laying the groundwork for any future victims... I could no longer keep up the lie he (Baio) conditioned me into and felt it a mother's responsibility to put the truth out there."
