In addition to skipping the Prince of Wales' party, the Duchess of Cambridge doesn't join her husband at the Manchester Arena National Service of Commemoration.

AceShowbiz - Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their first public appearance as a couple by attending Prince Charles' garden party at Buckingham Palace in London on Tuesday, May 22. Noticeably missing from the event were Harry's brother and sister-in-law, Prince William and Kate Middleton.

While William couldn't join her father and brother because he had to attend the Manchester Arena National Service of Commemoration at Manchester Cathedral, the Duchess of Cambridge ditched the event as she is still on her maternity leave.

"It is traditional for new royal moms to take a six-month break from official engagements," Duncan Larcombe, a royal biographer, explained. "The wedding doesn't count because it was a 'family affair,' but other than that, she will pick and choose her engagements."

It has been speculated that Kate will make an appearance at the Trooping of the Color, the Queen's official birthday party, in June. However, "if she wanted, Kate could disappear into the background until October," according to Duncan.

Meanwhile, royal historian Marlene Koenig noted that Kate purposely let Prince Harry and Meghan have their first post-wedding appearance to themselves. "The Duchess of Cambridge is on maternity leave, but I believe the idea was to have the newlyweds attend and accompany the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall," she said. "This would allow the new Duchess to experience her first royal engagement after her wedding."

Harry and Meghan tied the knot at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle on Saturday, May 19. Among 600 guests who attended the nuptials included Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney and wife, Serena Williams, Priyanka Chopra and Meghan's former "Suits" co-stars. Days after the wedding, Kensington Palace revealed the newlyweds' official wedding portraits, which all were taken by Alexi Lubormirski.
