Meanwhile, the finale also offers one of the biggest surprises of the night as it's revealed that two of the Top 3 finalists are dating each other this whole time.

AceShowbiz - "American Idol" season 16 finale has finally come. The Monday, May 21 episode would see one of the three finalists, Gabby Barrett, Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Maddie Poppe, being crowned champion. Before viewers got to know who's the winner, the singing competition show had tons to offer including stunning performances from both the contestants and the judges.

Judge Lionel Richie kicked off the night with an epic performance of "All Night Long". In the middle of his performance, he was joined by the top 10 finalists.

Nick Jonas later took the stage, marking the first celebrity to perform that night. The muscly heartthrob sang his new single "Anywhere" with DJ Mustard. He followed it up with a rendition of "Jealous", which he performed with top 10 finalist Jurnee. The next performer was Luke Bryan, who wowed everyone with his new song "Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset". He then joined forces with Gabby to belt out "Most People Are Good".

Cade Foehner and Dennis Lorenzo delivered an equally stunning performance as they shared the stage with Grammy winner Gary Clark Jr.. They sang the latter's hit song "Bright Lights" with Cade strumming his guitar during the perfomance.

Following a brief appearance of "The Bachelorette" star Becca Kufrin, the Top 3 singer Maddie took the stage to perform a sweet rendition of "Rainbow Connection" with Kermit the Frog. Caleb later teamed up with Darius Rucker for "Wagon Wheel", bringing all the country vibes to their performance.

Jimmy Kimmel then made a surprise appearance, before Sanjaya Malakar showed up. The winner of season 6 of "American Idol" was set to perform with other former Idol alums on "Late Night" later on that night. Another celebrity performing in the season finale was Bebe Rexha, who teamed up with the three finalists to sing "Meant to Be".

After having fun with the stellar performances, host Ryan Seacrest revealed the first finalist to make it to the Top 2. Caleb was named the first singer to be advancing, leaving Gabby and Maddie in jeopardy. Ryan later announced that the second Top 2 finalist was Maddie. Gabby looked understandably upset, walking offstage with teary eyes and heading to her parents.

Next, Layla Spring took the stage with her adorable sister Dyxie to sing "Blue" by LeAnn Rimes. Surprisingly, LeAnn showed up to join them. Now, it's Katy Perry and Catie Turner's turn to deliver an epic performance. They blew everyone away with their stripped down version of Katy's chart-topper "Part of Me".

Their performance was followed up by Michael J. Woodard, who joined gospel great Yolanda Adams for an inspirational rendition of "What the World Needs Now". Ada Vox later joined forces with Patti LaBelle to sing an electric rendition of "Lady Marmalade".

Caleb and Maddie then wowed everyone as they sang a gorgeous rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". The two also offered one of the biggest surprises of the night as they revealed that they are dating each other this whole time.

It was later time to find out the champion of current season of "American Idol". Maddie burst into tears when Ryan called out her name as the winner. Congratulations!
