The Fifth Harmony member says performing 'Love Lies' at the event with her singer best friend is something that she's always wanted to do.

AceShowbiz - Former Fifth Harmony singer Normani Kordei fulfilled a dream by performing her collaboration with friend Khalid at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, May 20.

Having recently embarked on a solo career, the Billboard awards marked another career highlight for the 21-year-old, as she performed her new track, met Janet Jackson and sung with one of her best friends.

Speaking to Billboard magazine backstage on the night, Normani said taking to the stage with American singer and songwriter Khalid had been a dream come true.

"It's something that I've personally worked so incredibly hard for for the last six years and even before," she told the news outlet. "Like me, watching the Billboard Music Awards as a little girl, and it actually coming to fruition, and the fact that I'm able to perform and say that I performed at the freaking Billboard Music Awards with one of my best friends, I consider, with a song that I genuinely love so much, it's a dream come true."

The star also got the chance to meet this year's Icon Award recipient Janet Jackson, but admitted the experience had left her feeling starstruck.

"I don't get nervous when it comes to a lot of people," she explained. "But Janet, I was really, really awkward. I feel like Janet and I have the same energy, or at least I like to think so. I'm really shy, and she's really shy, as well."

With new music on the horizon, the singer shed some light on her upcoming collaboration with Missy Elliot, confirming that while the pair were yet to get into a studio together, they did speak a few weeks ago.

"I told her kind of the direction that I was going for and immediately she's like, 'Yup, I got a record,'" Normani said.

"I feel like Missy Elliott is a representation of the music that I grew up listening to, and it is what made me fall in love with music.

"To be able to have someone who I looked up to for so long and kind of made me love music and has really paved the way to wanna be part of my project is mind-blowing," she gushed.
