AceShowbiz - Former U.S. President George H. W. Bush has heaped praise on the touring cast of hit Broadway musical "Hamilton" after the stars staged a special performance in his Texas office.

The 93-year-old, who recently mourned the death of his wife, First Lady Barbara Bush, was treated to a private show in Houston on Tuesday, May 15, and he later took to Twitter to gush about experiencing the hugely-popular hip-hop style production about America's Founding Father, Alexander Hamilton.

"A complete joy to welcome the 'HamFam' - the cast and crew of @HamiltonMusical - to our Houston office for a special performance I will never forget," he captioned a pair of images from the event. "History never sounded so powerful."

The high praise promoted "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda to respond, "The honor is ours, sir."

Bush is still recovering from a recent health scare - he was hospitalised with a blood infection a day after laying his wife to rest on 21 April.
