The rap mogul channels the actor by wearing an all-white papal-style suit, complete with a single white glove on his right hand.

AceShowbiz - P. Diddy channelled Jude Law's TV portrayal of "The Young Pope" for his look at Met Gala. The Bad Boy Records boss graced the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with his longtime girlfriend Cassie, wearing an all-white papal-style suit, complete with a single white glove on his right hand to reflect the event's theme, "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination".

He topped off his outfit with a diamond cross necklace he commissioned Lorraine Schwartz to design in 2010 and other items created by the jeweller, including a custom platinum and diamond single earring, and an oversized pinky ring, which were all inspired by Jude's look in the hit TV drama.

"A lot of the inspiration for the jewellery was Jude Law in 'The Young Pope'; Puff (Diddy) was like, 'His swag is on a million'." his longtime stylist, Derek Roche, told The Hollywood Reporter. Diddy, who attended a private Catholic school as a child, also wanted to use his fashion to reflect his status in the entertainment industry.

"In the Catholic church, the Pope is kind of the next thing to God, right?," Derek explained. "It didn't hurt that Puff's favourite colour is white. When we thought about what the Pope wears, Puff said, 'I'm godlike, right? As a successful black man, as a father, as an entrepreneur. So why not wear that same cloth, why not wear white like the Pope?' "

The rap mogul's suit was a bespoke wool silk design from Musika Frere, a rising New York-based label founded by Davidson Petit-Frere and Aleks Musika, and they originally provided Diddy with a matching cape to add a little dramatic flair to his appearance.

"We took the cape away, because I thought, 'Is he a superman or a Pope?' And Puff thought it was too much," Derek shared. "So we pulled back from all the regalia and pomp and circumstance and embroidery and decided to keep it more simple."

Roche added, "He didn't want it to look like a costume. Even though it is a costume party, Puff didn't want to look like he was dressed up for Halloween. He still wanted to be himself. So, organically, it evolved into this beautiful, heaven-like look. He looks so strong and powerful. He said that when he walked into the room, he wanted to look heavenly."
