The early renewal for the apocalyptic sci-fi drama comes only after it aired 2 episodes of its current sophomore season.

AceShowbiz - HBO is keeping "Westworld" around. Only days after the sci-fi drama premiered its season 2, the premium cable network has renewed it for a third season.
"It's been an extraordinary pleasure to work with the exceptionally talented Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as well as their gifted cast and crew," said Casey Bloys, President HBO Programming says in a statement. "From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us."
The early renewal is a no-brainer decision for the network given the satisfying ratings for the show's sophomore season. The second season, which debuted on April 22, earned mostly even ratings with its first season premiere. It pulled in 3 million viewers across multiple platforms (including HBO Go and HBO Now).
The J.J. Abrams-produced drama is among the drama rosters on the network, including "Big Little Lies", "True Detective", "The Deuce" and "Sharp Objects". "Westworld" is also often considered to be the heir of "Game of Thrones", which is set to air its eighth and final season in 2019.
Starring Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright and James Marsden, "Westworld" is a apocalyptic sci-fi drama based on the 1973 movie of the same name that was written and directed by Michael Crichton. The HBO adaptation of the flick is set in Westworld, a fictional, technologically advanced Wild-West-themed amusement park populated by android "hosts." The park caters to high-paying guests who may indulge their wildest fantasies within the park without fear of retaliation from the host.
Nolan and Joy executive produce alongside Abrams, Jerry Weintraub and Bryan Burk. The current season 2 focuses on the history of the park and the uprising from last season.
Season 2 of "Westworld" airs on Sundays at 9 P.M. on HBO.
