'Solo: A Star Wars Story' Featurette Reveals New Characters and Conflicts
Movie

Offering a look at the upcoming movie, director Ron Howard says that it 'was different from anything else we've seen in any previous 'Star Wars' movies.'

AceShowbiz - With only about two weeks until "Solo: A Star Wars Story" premieres at the Annual Cannes Film Festival on May 15, Lucasfilm releases a featurette of the movie headed by Alden Ehrenreich. The footage teases new characters and conflicts that will be shown in the upcoming movie.

In the video, helmer Ron Howard, scriptwriter Lawrence Kasdan and stars Ehrenreich, Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke explain how the new "Star Wars" standalone movie will be different from the previous movies set in the same universe that was created by George Lucas over four decades ago.

"The 'Star Wars' universe that we see in 'Solo' was different from anything else we've seen in any previous 'Star Wars' movies," says Howard. "The Empire controls everything. Everyone is struggling to survive, but we discover this incredible free spirit."

Then, the footage shows Han riding a car. "We're meeting Han right before he becomes Han that we know," says Glover. "You end up getting to see how this guy got to be the way he is," comments Ehrenreich on his character. "It's all part of the great expansion of the Han Solo world."

"Those encounters with Chewbacca, with the Millenium Falcon, with Lando Calrissian-they're in this movie," says Howard. In the footage, Han tries to pick a nickname for his co-pilot Chewbacca as he says he "ain't saying that every time." Thus, "Chewie" comes out.

The footage sees Han facing enemies that include a towering, giant, centipede-looking alien that is surrounded by a crew of other creatures. Somewhere in the video, he also becomes a soldier, apparently on the battlefield of the mud-soaked mining world Mimban.

"He's the most exciting character in this saga for me. You don't know what he's going to do. He's reckless," says Kasdan about Han. Qi'ra actress Clarke adds, "He does these stupid things that should never work. And they do! And he does it with bravado!"

The bravado is displayed in the clip when Han jumps on top of a moving train and pilots his Falcon into a storm.

"Solo: A Star Wars Story" will hit U.S. theaters on May 25
