A rescue diver and a team of scientists confront a 75-foot-long shark, previously thought to be extinct, in Jon Turteltaub-directed action thriller.

AceShowbiz - "A living fossil" is how Jaxx Herd (Ruby Rose) describes the monstrous animal in "The Meg". Warner Bros. Pictures has just released the first trailer for the movie, giving a taste of the terror that will spread after a team of scientists encounters the titular giant shark.
Taking the lead role, Jason Statham plays expert deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor who is hired to save the team who is trapped at the bottom of the sea, while the 75-foot-long shark is lurking in the Pacific Ocean.
"The Office" alum Rainn Wilson joins the cast as part of the scientist crew, Jack Morris. With his witty remarks, the movie shows that a thriller about a killer shark can still be funny.
The official synopsis reads, "In the film, a deep-sea submersible-part of an international undersea observation program-has been attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct, and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific...with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, expert deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor is recruited by a visionary Chinese oceanographer (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter Suyin (Li Bingbing), to save the crew-and the ocean itself-from this unstoppable threat: a pre-historic 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon."
"What no one could have imagined is that, years before, Taylor had encountered this same terrifying creature. Now, teamed with Suyin, he must confront his fears and risk his own life to save everyone trapped below...bringing him face to face once more with the greatest and largest predator of all time."
Also starring in the action thriller are Cliff Curtis, Masi Oka, Page Kennedy, Jessica McNamee, Olafur Darri Olafsson, Robert Taylor and Sophia Shuya Cai. Directed by Jon Turteltaub, it will terrorize audience in theaters across the nation starting August 10.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jason Statham revealed he swam with real sharks to prepare for the role. "On the early stages of the prep, we took a trip to Fiji, and we went diving with some bull sharks," he said, before gushing, "These things are three meters in length, huge big things. There were 20 or 30 of these things, and they were hand-feeding [them] big tuna heads, and we got very, very close, and it was a spectacular moment. To swim in close proximity to a big, three-meter shark, is to be recommended to all and everyone."
