AceShowbiz - After nearly two decades in development due to financial trouble, casting issues and more, "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" is finally settled. The first trailer of Terry Gilliam's movie arrived on Thursday, April 5. The video shows a deluded old man who believes he is Don Quixote, a noble man who decides to revive chivalry, undo wrongs and bring justice to the world after he loses his sanity.

The man accidentally meets advertising executive Toby Grisoni. He mistakes Toby for Don's trusty squire, Sancho Panza. They then embark on a bizarre journey, jumping back and forth in time between the 21st and magical 17th century.

Elsewhere in the trailer, this Don even says that an old windmill is his son. He then rushes to the rescue after thinking that the building is in danger. As their journey goes, Toby becomes consumed by the illusory world and unable to determine his dreams from reality. The tale ends with a phantasmagorical and emotional finale when Toby takes on the mantle of Don Quixote de la Mancha.

The trailer is packed with dramatic battles, elaborated costumes and many hyper-meta references. There is also a humor shown in a scene of Toby asking, "Can I read?" to which the old man replies, "A peasant like you, cannot read." The man then adds, "I'll sound the words and you can look at the pictures."

Jonathan Pryce plays the old Don Quixote. Jean Rochefort, Michael Palin, Robert Duvall and John Hurt were all previously cast as the character but exited the movie due to various reasons. Meanwhile, Johnny Depp, Ewan McGregor and Jack O'Conell were initially cast as Toby Grisoni, who is now portrayed by Adam Driver. Joining the cast are Olga Kurylenko who plays Jacqui and Stellan Skarsgard who portrays The Boss. There are also Oscar Jaenada, Rossy de Palma, Jason Watkins, Joana Ribeiro, Jordi Molla and Sergi Lopez.

Directed by Terry, the movie is based on a famous novel entitled "Don Quixote" by Miguel de Cervantes. The script came from Tony Grisoni and Terry. Meanwhile, Gerardo Herrero, Mariela Besuievsky, Gregoire Melin, Ammy Gilliam and Sebastien Delloye produced the movie.

The movie will premiere in May at the 71st Cannes Film Festival.
