The 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' star reveals Abrams had a different plan to reveal Rey's parentage, which was scrapped when Rian Johnson took over the helming duty.

AceShowbiz - Rey's parentage was revealed in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", but fans were disappointed to know that her real parents are no ones important. That could've been a different story if J.J. Abrams had agreed to return to the helming duty for the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" sequel.

Simon Pegg, who starred as Unkar Plutt in the first installment of the new "Star Wars" film trilogy, revealed that Abrams had a different plan for Rey's lineage, which was thrown into a wrench with the revelation in "The Last Jedi".

"Well I know what J.J. kind of intended, or at least what was sort of being chucked around," Pegg said on "Happy Sad Confused" podcast. "I think that's kind of been undone slightly by ['The Last Jedi']. I don't know. I don't know (laughs)."

He jokingly said, "I think Unkar Plutt is Rey's real father." But he was getting more coy as he continued, "There was some talk about, you know, a kind of relevant lineage for her. But I honestly don't know, and I don't know if anybody knows. We shall see."

Prior to Pegg's confirmation, there had been fan theories about Rey's parents. Josh Horowitz of MTV News chimed in, "Simon Pegg confirms what I've long heard, JJ had a much different plan for Rey's parentage," adding a link to Pegg's interview.

Abrams is now on board to direct the ninth installment in the "Star Wars" film franchise. Pegg admitted he was "surprised" that the filmmaker agreed to come back for the upcoming "Star Wars Episode IX".

The movie is scheduled to start shooting in three months, with Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver slated to return as Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo, respectively. While plot details are still kept under wraps, Boyega revealed that his character Finn and Rey would not be separated in the upcoming movie, like they were in "The Last Jedi".

"I haven't read the script for 'Episode 9'. But Daisy did shoot me a text saying, 'Oh my gosh, I just heard from J.J. [Abrams], and we're back together.' That's what I'm really excited about, is Finn and Rey back together again," he said at the annual Awesome Con in Washington D.C. He went on teasing about the movie, "I think it's going to be all-out war in this final chapter, so we need to be prepared."

"Star Wars Episode IX" is slated to arrive on December 20, 2019. Abrams, Chris Terrio and Jack Thorne team up to write the script.
