The 'Magic Mike' star reportedly slowed down his busy career to spend more time with Jenna and their daughter Everly, though it didn't work.

AceShowbiz - Ending their marriage clearly was not an easy decision for Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan. The 37-year-old actor reportedly had tried to save their relationship before they made the shocking announcement on Monday, April 2.

According to PEOPLE, Channing, who had his breakthrough role in "Step Up" in which he starred with his future wife Jenna, slowed down his busy career to spend more time with his now estranged wife and their 4-year-old daughter Everly. "He was actually turning down jobs to spend more time with family," says a source.

The source notes that the hunky actor has not been on location for a film since shooting "Logan Lucky" in October 2016. Moreover, the "Magic Mike" star only had four films released between 2016 and 2017, a stark contrast to his packed schedule before, in which he was starring in four to five movies a year from 2011 until 2015.

In fact, Channing only took a voice role in "Smallfoot" in 2017. The movie was made in Los Angeles, where he and Jenna have been staying in recently while she was working on "World of Dance". The animated film is his only movie scheduled to be released this year so far.

Despite their split, there's still love between the former spouses. "They honestly do still love each other and that's not just for show," a source tells PEOPLE. "That love turned more into a friendship rather than the passion they felt when they first met and fell in love."

As reported before, the pair drifted apart over time, but there was not a big fight that led to their separation. "That almost made it harder for them to decide to separate because there weren't any huge issues, and there's not one person to point a finger at as the one who screwed up," the source adds.

Following their decision to split, both Channing and Jewan reportedly have been leaning on their friends for support. The source says, "Channing has been spending more time with his friends over the last couple months and Jenna, of course, has her close group of girlfriends that she's been leaning on."

Most recently, Channing was seen taking his daughter Everly shopping at a Studio City Target on April 4. He still wore his wedding band despite the split announcement. He carried his daughter on his shoulders while carrying her little gold backpack and holding a shopping bag.
