Black and Cate Blanchett play Jonathan Barnavelt and Mrs. Zimmerman who hold secrets about the titular house in the adaptation of John Bellairs' gothic horror novel.

AceShowbiz - Master of horror movies, Eli Roth, is back to scare people. Following up his vigilante action film "Death Wish" which was released earlier this month, he returns to the genre he's most closely associated with with an adaptation of "The House with a Clock in Its Walls".

Set to be released in the fall, the movie has debuted its first trailer for fans' viewing pleasure. It follows 10-year-old Lewis, who moves with his uncle Jonathan Barnavelt into an ancient house that has a mysterious ticking clock heart within its walls. Owen Vaccaro plays the young boy, while Jack Black portrays his uncle Jonathan.

There's footage of Owen encountering a scary creature in the house, Jonathan hurling fireballs at evil spirits and Mrs. Zimmerman trying to fight off something with her magical umbrella.

There's also a look at Mrs. Zimmerman, Jonathan's neighbour and best friend, who is played by Cate Blanchett. She welcomes Owen to the creepy, old house, but it turns out that there's more secrets that Jonathan and Mrs. Zimmerman keep besides that about the house.

After coming across several secret passageways, young Lewis learns that his uncle is actually a warlock. He eventually finds a book of his uncle's spells, and unwittingly awakens an evil wizard, which sets in motion a chain of events tied to the clock/heart that is designed for doomsday purposes.

Based on John Bellairs' gothic horror novel, the movie is written by "Supernatural" creator Eric Kripke. He posted on Twitter, "When I was 10, I fell in love with this book. The only fan letter I ever wrote was to its author. It's one of the main inspirations for #spn. Now we got to make it into a movie. Dreams do come true. If you like #spn, see where it all began. #spnfamily."

Amblin Pictures, which is releasing the film through Universal Pictures, promises that the feature film won't tone down the scares. Kyle MacLachlan, Colleen Camp, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Vanessa Anne Williams and Sunny Suljic also star in the movie, which is set to arrive on September 21.
