The 'Divergence' star and the 'Hunger Games' actor play adventurous lovers who struggle to survive after they get caught in a hurricane that damages their boat and leaves Claflin's Richard injured.

AceShowbiz - Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin are lost at sea in the first trailer for survival film "Adrift (2018)". The "Snowden" actress and the "Me Before You" actor play romantic couple, Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp, respectively, who set sail for California from Tahiti.

Soon, they find themselves in danger as what would become one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in history approaches their boat. The trailer sees the yacht getting into massive waves that damage the boat and leave Richard gravely injured.

After her desperate attempt to call for help, it is now up to Tami to ride the boat to a safe place and rescue both her and Richard. She's seen looking at the map and setting their destination, controlling the boat and spear-fishing to keep them alive.

The movie is inspired by the true story of Tami Oldham Ashcraft, who actually had to survive alone after her partner was lost in the story. Her journey is captured in a book titled "Red Sky in Mourning: The True Story of a Woman's Courage and Survival at Sea".

The film centers on two free spirits whose chance encounter leads them first to love, and then to the adventure of a lifetime. As the two avid sailors set out on a journey across the ocean, Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp couldn't anticipate they would be sailing directly into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history.

In the aftermath of the storm, Tami awakens to find Richard badly injured and their boat in ruins. With no hope for rescue, Tami must find the strength and determination to save herself and the only man she has ever loved. "Adrift" is the unforgettable story about the resilience of the human spirit and the transcendent power of love.

Directed by Baltasar Kormakur ("Contraband", "2 Guns", "Everest (2015)"), "Adrift" is written by Aaron Kandell, Jordan Kandell and David Branson Smith. The adventure drama movie will open in theaters across the nation on June 1.
