The 'Ghosted' star is set to reprise his role as Ed Mackenzie, the patient, loyal and faithful husband of Reese Witherspoon's Madelaine Martha Mackenzie.

AceShowbiz - Another original cast member is returning for the upcoming second season of HBO's hit series "Big Little Lies". A network representative confirms that Adam Scott is set to reprise his role as Ed Mackenzie when the show returns for its sophomore season. Filming is expected to start next month.

Adam, who is currently starring on FOX's "Ghosted", will once again play the patient, loyal and faithful husband of Reese Witherspoon's Madelaine Martha Mackenzie. The rep, however, teases that in the highly-anticipated new season, Ed will be "forced to confront major challenges in his marriage to Madeline."

Many fans assume that by major challenges, it refers to Madeline's presumed affair with the school's theater director. She kept the infidelity hidden from Ed, and should Ed find out, thing seemingly won't look good for their marriage.

Adam will join previously-announced returning cast members. They include Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern and Zoe Kravitz who return as Jane Chapman, Renata Klein and Bonnie Carlson respectively. Reese and Nicole Kidman will also reprise their roles as Madeline and Celeste Wright respectively in addition to serving as executive producers. Meryl Streep, meanwhile, is tapped to guest-star, playing Mary Louise Wright, the mother-in-law of Celeste and the mother of Perry.

In the upcoming second season of the Emmy-winning series, Madeline is said to be confronting the truth of Perry's (Alexander Skarsgard) death and coming to terms with her own marriage and traditional notions of marriage. Meanwhile, Celeste is still reeling from her husband's death, "adrift, but determined to fight for her family and find the woman she once was."

Jane will continue to rebuild her life with son Ziggy as she processes the death of her attacker Perry. Bonnie's parents will also be introduced in season 2.

Written by David E. Kelley and directed by Andrea Arnold, 7-episode season 2 of "Big Little Lies" reportedly will arrive in 2019.
