Asked about Todd Philips' Joker movie in a new interview, the Oscar-nominated actor plays coy as he says he 'has no idea' about it.

AceShowbiz - Joaquin Phoenix has been rumored to be in talks with Warner Bros. to take the role of the Joker in its upcoming stand-alone film about the Clown Prince of Crime. But it turns out that the three-time Oscar-nominated actor doesn't seem to be aware of the project itself, or could it be that he's just playing coy about it?
Joaquin was recently promoting his next movie "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot" when he had an interview with French publication Allocine about his latest film. Asked about the Joker casting rumor surrounding him, the "Mary Magdalene" actor coyly responded, "What movie about a Joker?... I have no idea what you're talking about." He did admit that it "sounds amazing," though.
While it's unclear if Phoenix really didn't know about the project, keeping quiet about a role an actor is circling isn't anything new in Hollywood. It's also certainly not new for DC Films, as Jason Momoa previously claimed for months that he didn't know anything about being cast as Aquaman before he was revealed to have a cameo appearance in 2016's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", and it later turned out he had been involved with Warner Bros. for months.
It might be entirely possible, though, that Phoenix indeed hasn't been told about the film and the role. But with production on the film being set to start in a few months with Todd Philips ("The Hangover" trilogy, "War Dog") serving behind the lens, it is expected that fans will get an update sooner than later.
The yet-to-be-titled Joker movie doesn't have a release date. Details of the upcoming stand-alone movie's plot are also currently unknown, though the film is set in Gotham City in the early 1980s and has more of the look of a gritty crime drama than comic-book movie. It is also said that the film will be separate from the DC Extended Universe in an effort to create new and unique storylines.
Acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese has been tapped to serve as a producer for the project. Phillips will direct the standalone film from a script he co-wrote with Oscar nominee Scott Silver, whose writing credits include "The Fighter" and "The Finest Hours". Silver has also written Matthew McConaughey's "White Boy Rick", which is currently in post-production and due out in the U.S. on August 17.
