AceShowbiz - Ryan Seacrest has finally addressed the sexual harassment allegations against him last year. Back in November, a wardrobe stylist who worked with Seacrest a decade ago on E! News accused him of inappropriate behavior. The network launched an investigation, but ended it on Thursday, February 1 due to "insufficient evidence."
Writing a guest column for The Hollywood Reporter, the 43-year-old television host reveals that having his "workplace conduct questioned was gut-wrenching." He explains that even though he was confident of his innocence, he knew his name would automatically join the growing list of those accused of "despicable words and deeds."
"I absolutely want to be part of the change, the progress, that is coming. I did not want to be a postscript of evidence of its cause," he writes, recalling the time when he shared the legal letter with the network before denying the allegations.
"Most of us agree that the presumption of innocence is an important standard," he adds. "We are taught early on that it's essential to see all sides, to give everyone a chance to explain and to check for exculpatory evidence that may have been missed."
Seacrest goes on saying that everyone, including accusers and alleged accused, should be given "the opportunity for a swift and fair review." The "American Idol" host notes, "My job is to listen. Beyond listening, which I will continue in earnest, I also will ask questions and try to help voices be heard. It isn't lost on me that my platforms -- radio, TV, social media -- can be powerful conduits for change."
Concluding his writing, Seacrest notes that everyone has the right "to be treated equally, regardless of our gender, race, faith, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or other status." He remarks, "We live with near constant change, disruption and public discourse."
"I realize the morals and values, the decency, we've perhaps taken for granted, individually and as citizens of the world, are in question," he continues. "Worse, at risk. I do not take these things for granted."
