Hoda revealed that Matt, who was fired in November over alleged inappropriate sexual behavior, texted her and gave her 'some nice words' after she was announced as his 'Today' predecessor.

AceShowbiz - Hoda Kotb was just named as the new co-host of "Today", replacing Matt Lauer who was fired following multiple sexual harassment allegations against him. Apparently, Matt was as happy as other people for Hoda's promotion.

Hoda revealed that Matt sent her a congratulatory message hours after the announcement. "He was sweet this morning," Hoda told to E! News in between "Today" segment on Tuesday, January 2. "Certain texts popped up, and there was one from Matt: Congratulations!"

Hoda, who joined the NBC show a decade ago, added, "And he said some nice words." She went on saying, "It meant the world to me to hear from him. It was really nice." Talking to Entertainment Tonight, Hoda said, "My heart just went like, you know, it meant the world to see that."

Hoda said that she remains in touch with Matt. "You know, Matt is our good friend and continues to be, and I think for both of us, we've just been trying to navigate this time and honor our love and friendship with Matt, but also understand and try to learn more about these circumstances," she said. "So, it's complicated when you are surprised by revelations, but you still care deeply for somebody who's a friend. I think for all of us, we've just been trying to navigate through that, with straightforwardness and honesty and integrity."

Hoda has been tapped to join Savannah Guthrie for two hours a day, starting at 7 A.M. She will later clink wine glasses with Kathie Lee Gifford in the fourth hour of "Today".

Savannah announced that Hoda would be her permanent co-host during the show's Tuesday episode. "It's 2018 and we are kicking off the year right because Hoda is officially the co-anchor of 'Today'. This has to be the most popular decision NBC News has ever made and I'm so thrilled," she excitedly said. "The job can be intense, and you want a partner who has your back. The fact that we are two women seems just right with where our culture is."
