Composed by Jeff Russo, the new theme contains several references to the 'iconic and memorable' theme song of 'Star Trek: The Original Series'.

AceShowbiz - Ahead of its premiere on September 24, "Star Trek: Discovery" releases a new video featuring the upcoming show's theme song. Composed by Jeff Russo, the main title theme makes you take a musical trip down memory lane.

Every "Star Trek" fans can tell that the new theme, played by a 60-piece orchestra, opens and closes with familiar nods to "Star Trek: The Original Series" score by Alexander Courage. Russo shares that he feels like his head is about to explode when he knows that he is going to make a theme song for the show. "When I first started to think what I'd do for a main theme, I first needed to feel like I was in the world of 'Star Trek'," he explains. "Even though there is a lot of action on the show, I wanted to really play into how these characters are feeling."

"The music of 'Trek' is a critical part of the experience of 'Trek'," says co-creator and EP Alex Kurtzman. "The original Alexander Courage's theme is one of the most iconic and memorable themes of all time. It's built on the DNA of the show."

Fans are impressed with the new theme with one fan commenting, "Don't the last few notes right before the end give you chills?" Another fan wrote, "I finally got out off my work conference and had a moment alone to watch/listen. Goosebumps & tears in eyes. I'm so excited!"
