The project from HBO alum Michael Ellenberg will mark Aniston's comeback to small screen, more than a decade after 'Friends' wrapped its run.

AceShowbiz - Jennifer Aniston is plotting her return to small screen. The actress, who was last seen on TV when she guest starred on "Cougar Town" in 2010, is set to star on a new TV series from former head of HBO drama, Michael Ellenberg. She will star on the untitled project about TV morning shows alongside Reese Witherspoon.

Should it move forward, the project will mark Aniston's first series regular role since "Friends" wrapped its run in 2004. Witherspoon, meanwhile, recently starred on HBO's miniseries "Big Little Lies", which earned her an Emmy nomination for her role as Madeline Martha Mackenzie. The two actresses have been friends since Witherspoon guest starred as Aniston's younger sister on "Friends".

The untitled morning show project is described as an hour-long drama series that explores network morning shows and the larger New York media scene they inhabit. The project is expected to be shopped to premium cablers and streaming services in the next week or so.

Jay Carson ("House of Cards") will pen the script. Ellenberg, Witherspoon, Aniston, Steve Kloves and Lauren Levy Neustader will executive produce the show.
