The 'Fireworks' hitmaker has been officially announced as both the host and a performer at the upcoming award-giving event.

AceShowbiz - It's official! Katy Perry will serve as a host at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. The "Dark Horse" singer has taken to Instagram to announce the good news with a video, which finds her floating in space dressed as the show's iconic moonman statue.

"I've been training with @MTV in zero gravity, eating astronaut ice cream, and I'm on a group text with Buzz Aldrin and Neil deGrasse Tyson. Come August 27th, I'll be ready to be your MOONWOMAN! Brace for impact, kids," so she writes in the caption.

Katy will also take the stage as a performer at the upcoming event. "We're thrilled to have global phenomenon Katy Perry as the host and a performer at the 2017 VMAs," Bruce Gillmer, head of music and music talent for Global Entertainment Group, Viacom, says in a statement. "She is at the forefront of music culture and the perfect person to anchor this year's show, which promises to be one of the most diverse and music-filled in VMA history."

As previously reported, the 32-year-old songstress scores five nods at the event. She is nominated for Best Pop, Best Direction and Best Visual Effects awards for "Chained to the Rhythm", in addition to Best Art Direction award for "Bon Appetit" and Best Collaboration award for her collaborative track with Calvin Harris, "Feels".

This will be Katy's first time hosting the VMAs. Last year, the event didn't have a host, as it only featured Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele as commentators. Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus hosted the show in 2015. The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from The Forum in Inglewood, California, on August 27 at 8 P.M. ET.
