The newly-released trailer sees the actor as a computerized version of the deceased husband of Lois Smith's titular character, who is now old and in poor health.

AceShowbiz - FilmRise has released the trailer for "Marjorie Prime", a sci-fi film based on Jordan Harrison's Pulitzer Prize-nominated play of the same name. Making its way out online via Entertainment Weekly, the trailer sees Jon Hamm as a computerized version of the deceased husband of Lois Smith's titular character.

The over-2-minute video opens with a flashback showing Hamm's Walter proposing to Marjorie, who is much younger than him. The trailer then jumps to a scene where Marjorie, now an ailing widow, meets her still-young-and-smart "husband" with the help of artificial intelligence. When she wonders why "there's someone in my mind. I'm trying to figure it out who it is," he responds, "It's just me. It's just Walter"

The storyline of "Manjorie Prime" reads, "In the near future, a time of artificial intelligence: 86-year-old Marjorie - a jumble of disparate, fading memories - has a handsome new companion who looks like her deceased husband and is programmed to feed the story of her life back to her."

Written and directed by Michael Almereyda, the movie also stars Tim Robbins, Geena Davis and Stephanie Andujar. It premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on August 18.
