Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry and The Weeknd Dominate MTV Video Music Awards Nominations

Kendrick leads the list with eight nominations, mostly for his 'Humble' video, while Katy and The Weeknd are nominated in five categories each.

AceShowbiz - Nominations for the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards have been announced exclusively on Instagram Live, and Kendrick Lamar leads the pack with eight nods. He scores seven nominations for his music video for "Humble". Additionally, the Compton rapper is vying for Artist of the Year, competing against the likes of Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd and Lorde.

Following behind Kendrick are Katy Perry and The Weeknd with five nominations each. Katy scores nominations for several songs, including "Chained to the Rhythm", "Bon Appetit" and her collaboration with Calvin Harris, "Feels". Meanwhile, The Weeknd's video for "Reminder" is up in several creative categories.

This year's VMAs will be done without gendered categories, such as Best Female Video and Best Male Video, and combined them instead in Artist of the Year category. Best Fight Against the System category has also been added to celebrate videos that stand up against social injustice. Logic, Big Sean, Alessia Cara, John Legend are among its nominees.

Fans now can vote online for eight categories, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Pop Video, Best Dance Video and more. Nominees for the socially voted Best Song of Summer category will be announced in the coming weeks. The MTV Music Video Awards will air live from The Forus in Inglewood, California, on August 27 at 8 P.M. ET.
