People speculate that the government decided to abolish the special celebrity unit after the 29-year-old rapper was charged with illegal marijuana use last month.

AceShowbiz - The government of South Korea will most likely discontinue the celebrity police unit starting next year. The decision comes after T.O.P of Big Bang was charged with illegal marijuana use last month. This leads people to speculate that his scandal is the reason behind the abolition.

The number of celebrities applying to the special unit keeps increasing each year and causes other citizens to complain about the special treatment. Celebrities who are in the celebrity police unit are not active duty police who actually protect people as they're usually given lighter tasks compared to others. JYJ's Xiah Junsu, TVXQ's Max Changmin and Super Junior's Choi Siwon are among the celebrities who are currently serving in the celebrity police unit.

People pointed out how a celebrity unit is always discontinued after a public figure is involved in a scandal. "The druggie [T.O.P] did a big deed," a commenter wrote on an article on Nate. "Rain discontinued the celebrity soldiers, T.O.P discontinued the celebrity police soldiers. Amazing bastards in more ways than one," another commented.

In 2013, the celebrity soldier unit was discontinued after several celebrities were caught breaking the rules. Rain was caught leaving his unit in order to meet Kim Tae Hee whom he was secretly dating at that time. He was also spotted drinking together in a private restaurant with SE7EN following a performance to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the Korean War. SE7EN was later involved in another scandal after he and Mighty Mouth's Sangchu visited an illegal massage parlor during their service.

With the police celebrity unit being discontinued, it is expected that there will be many celebrities who will try to enlist this year as they want to avoid enlisting to the military as active duty soldiers next year.
