Prince William and Prince Harry Regret Last Short Phone Call With Princess Diana

The princes were 'in a desperate rush to say, 'Goodbye, see you later, can I go off?' ' when their mother called hours before she was killed in a car crash.

AceShowbiz - Prince William and Prince Harry were saddened by the fact that they didn't get a chance to say a proper goodbye to Princess Diana. The princes regretted the last phone call they had with their mother since they weren't focused on her and wanted the phone call to end soon.

"The very last memory I have is a phone call from Balmoral [Castle in Scotland]," William said in "Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy", a new documentary dedicated to the Princess of Wales. "At the time Harry and I were running around, minding our own business, playing with our cousins and having a very good time," he recalled. "Harry and I were in a desperate rush to say 'Goodbye, see you later, can I go off?' If I'd known what was going to happen I wouldn't have been quite so blase about it. That phone call sticks in my mind quite heavily."

Harry added that he would have said more meaningful things if he had known that it would be the last time he spoke to Diana. "It was her speaking from Paris," Harry shared. "I can't necessarily remember what I said but all I do remember is regretting for the rest of my life how short the phone call was. If I'd known that that was the last time I was going to speak to my mother, the things I would have said to her."

"Looking back at it now - it's incredibly hard," he continued. "I have to deal with that for the rest of my life: not knowing that it was the last time I'd speak to my mum, how differently that conversation would have panned out if I'd had even the slightest inkling that her life was going to be taken that night."

Although the princes regretted their last short conversation with Diana, they still had a lot of beautiful memories about her. "Our mother was a total kid through and through," Harry revealed. "When anybody says to me, 'So she was fun? Give us an example,' all I can hear is her laugh in my head and that sort of crazy laugh. Just pure happiness shown on her face."

"Her 20th anniversary year feels like a good time to remember, you know, all the good things about her and hopefully provide maybe a different side to her that others haven't seen before," William said.

In addition to the documentary, William and Harry shared some never-before-seen childhood photos via Kensington Palace's Twitter account. "The Duke and Prince Harry are pleased to share 3 photographs from the personal photo album of the late Diana, Princess of Wales," it tweeted alongside the photos.
