The 31-year-old songstress has taken to social media to defend the British crooner and ask her fans to be 'kind and empowering, not hateful and mean.'

AceShowbiz - Lady GaGa has come out to support her fellow singer Ed Sheeran after her fans drive him off Twitter. The Mother Monster has taken to her Instagram account to share a photo of her and Sheeran, along with a powerful message to her fans. She praises the "Galway Girl" hitmaker and asks her fans to stop hating.

The pic sees GaGa pouting her lips, while Sheeran holds thumbs up to the camera. "What an incredible talented artist I LOVE ED. [He] deserves all our love and respect like all humans do. I wish all people on the internet would be positive and loving and apart of creating an online community that is kind and empowering, not hateful and mean," so read the caption.

"No reason to tear down an artist simply because they are on top. Work harder to be kinder everybody. That should be your first duty to humanity," GaGa concludes.

A day prior, Sheeran admitted that he decided to "come off Twitter completely" because of all the hate he received from GaGa's fanbase. "Lady GaGa's fanbase read an interview in which they assumed I was talking about her and they all f**king hate," he said. "And it wasn't anything to do with that at all. So I think Twitter gets on a massive steam roll of assuming things and then you get in the s**t."

Little Monsters have been trolling Sheeran on Twitter since earlier this year, following speculations claiming that Sheeran threw shade at the "Bad Romance" singer during an interview. "I do not want to be the kind of artist who has had two successful albums and then feels invincible," he said at that time. "I have to know when to listen to people, or I'll end up like those artists you've interviewed in recent years. You've seen them become the biggest artists in the world, and then suddenly they will say, 'I know everything!' And just after, they are no longer at the top."
