AceShowbiz - Lucasfilm is reportedly unhappy with Alden Ehrenreich's performance in "untitled stand-alone Star Wars film II". The actor was not delivering a performance up to Lucasfilm's standards, causing the studio to hire an acting coach late into production.

Lucasfilm execs weren't all that pleased about what they saw in the Alden footage and decided to take drastic measures in order to fix what went wrong. According to THR, the execs hired an acting coach to help Alden.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was unhappy with how the film was progressing and how directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller did their job. On June 20, Kathleen decided to fire Phil and Chris.

According to sources, while Phil and Chris' skill was undeniable, the pair relied too heavily on the improvisational style that served them so well in live-action comedy and animation but did not work on a set with hundreds of crewmembers waiting for direction.

"You have to make decisions much earlier than what they're used to. I don't know if it's because there were two of them but they were not decisive. They collaborate closely with their actors and give them creative freedom that, in their experience, brings out the actors' best performances," a source reveals, "Lawrence Kasdan would not allow this and demanded that every line was said word for word. To appease him and the studio, Lord and Miller would do several takes exactly as written and then shoot additional takes."

Another source claims that Kathleen and Disney "were hoping for a meeting of the minds [with Lord and Miller] that never came." But if she had fired them earlier, according to the source, "people would say, 'Why the hell didn't you try to work it out?' You're damned if you do and damned if you don't."
