The 'Frost/Nixon' director is confirmed to replace Phil Lord and Chris Miller who left the 'Star Wars' spin-off due to creative differences.

AceShowbiz - Ron Howard is confirmed to sit behind the lens for the upcoming "Star Wars" movie that follows a young Han Solo. The "Forst/Nixon" helmer replaces Phil Lord and Chris Miller as a director of the untitled stand-alone Star Wars film II starring Alden Ehrenreich.

"At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago," Lucasfilm's presiden Kathleen Kennedy said. "With that in mind, we're thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie. Filming will resume the 10th of July."

Lord and Miller allegedly left due to creative differences. According to Entertainment Weekly, the director duo clashed with Kennedy when they, known for their work in comedies like "21 Jump Street" and "The Lego Movie", started "steering the Han Solo movie more into the genre of laughs than space fantasy."
