Through his representatives, the 32-year-old soccer player has denied the claims he has ever committed tax evasion in Spain.

AceShowbiz - Cristiano Ronaldo has dismissed allegations he has ever committed tax evasion in Spain. The Real Madrid star has been accused by prosecutor's office in Madrid of evading tax of 14.7 million euros (£13 million or $16 million) from 2011 to 2014.

Gestifute, the management company representing Ronaldo, has released a statement dismissing the allegations. The 32-year-old athlete's representatives say that there has never been concealment, or the slightest intention to conceal.

"It is clear that the football player did not try to evade taxes," say the reps. In the statement, it is also said that the world's highest paid soccer player has not hidden any income from the tax authorities or defrauded Spain.

Ronaldo had previously said he was not worried about tax investigations as he had nothing to hide. And now Madrid's regional state prosecutor has accused the Portuguese soccer player of four counts of tax fraud from 2011 to 2014.

It alleges Ronaldo defrauded Spanish tax authorities of $21.8 million between 2011 and 2014. The prosecutor also claims the athlete used what it deemed a shell company in the Virgin Islands to "create a screen in order to hide his total income from Spain's Tax Office."

If convicted on all charges, Ronaldo could get a 5-year prison term.
