Movie

The musical, who will be directed by McCarthy's husband Ben Falcone, will see Santa's sweet wife Margie Claus who tries to find her missing husband on Christmas Eve.

AceShowbiz - Christmas time comes early for Melissa McCarthy. The comedienne has been tapped by New Line Cinema to star in holiday family musical "Margie Claus", The Hollywood Reporter reports. Directed by McCarthy's husband Ben Falcone ("The Boss", "What to Expect When You're Expecting"), "Margie Claus" will mark McCarthy's musical debut.

Besides directing, Falcone will co-write "Margie Claus" script with Damon Jones, the co-creator of USA Network's "Benched". Falcone will also produce the musical with McCarthy through their On the Day banner.

The musical will center on Santa Claus' sweet wife Margie Claus (McCarthy). Her husband goes missing while delivering gifts on Christmas Eve and she's got to leave the North Pole for the first time to save both him and Christmas. The musical is expected to have the same vibe and success as "Elf", Will Ferrell-starring movie which was distributed by New Line Cinema.

McCarthy earned critical acclaims for her surprise appearance when portraying White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer on "Saturday Night Live" latest season. As for her big-screen credits, the comedienne was most recently seen in "Ghostbusters" and "The Boss". McCarthy reprised her role as Sookie St. James in the "Fall" episode of TV mini-series "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life".

"Margie Claus" is set to hit U.S. theaters on November 15, 2019.
