Argentinian filmmaker Damian Szifron is reportedly among the frontrunners who may replace Doug Liman to direct 'Justice League Dark', which is also known as 'Dark Universe'.

AceShowbiz - Following the news that "It" director Andres Muschietti might replace Doug Liman to helm the upcoming "Dark Universe" ("Justice League Dark"), a report about a new possible director emerges. According to the Popcorn Talk video podcast, Argentinian director Damian Szifron is among the possible directors who are eyed to helm the film.

Szifron is best known for creating Argentine television series "Los Simuladores" ("The Pretenders"). His anthology film "Wild Tales" won BAFTA for Best Film Not in the English Language. Recently, Szifron was attached to direct "The Six Billion Dollar Man" reboot starring Mark Wahlberg, but the production seemingly hasn't begun yet.

Recent report said that Muschietti was also eyed to direct "Justice League Dark". Should Muschietti nab the directorial role, it is assumed that "Justice League Dark" will have a horror vibe, judging from the fact that Muschietti has specialties in the genre. Muschietti's horror movie "Mama" earned critical praise back in 2013 and he was later hired to direct Stephen King's horror story "It".

Before leaving the project, Liman himself told CinemaBlend that "Justice League Dark" would have "real horror elements" from pop culture in the past. "It's going to have real horror elements, for sure. I love early horror films, be it 'The Exorcist', or 'Carrie', 'The Omen'. In the same way that 'Bourne Identity', I went back to the '70s paranoia," said Liman.

"Justice League Dark" centers on a dark "Justice League" team, which consists of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon. The movie is included in D.C. Cinematic Universe, with Scott Rudin producing and Michael Gilio writing the script.
