Fans Loath ABC's 'Dirty Dancing' Remake - See the Hilarious Memes

The TV reimagining of 1987's beloved film seemingly does not live up to fans' expectation as some Twitter users begin to tweet hilarious and wild memes, making fun of the remake.

AceShowbiz - ABC aired the highly-anticipated small screen reimagining of classic 1987 film "Dirty Dancing" on Wednesday evening, May 24. However, it seems like the TV adaptation of the beloved movie starring the late Patrick Swayze doesn't live up to fans' expectation.

"Dirty Dancing (2017)" stars Abigail Breslin, who took over the role of Baby Houseman, which was made famous by Jennifer Grey. Meanwhile, Colt Prattes portrayed Johnny Castle, the most famous role played by Patrick in the original movie. Also starring in the TV movie were Sarah Hyland (Lisa Houseman), Debra Messing (Marjorie Houseman), Nicole Scherzinger (Penny Rivera), Katey Sagal (Vivian Pressman) and Bruce Greenwood (Dr. Jake Houseman).

[SPOILER ALERT!] Still set in the summer of 1963, the remake altered some of the story and even featured a big time jump at the ending. It went 12 years in the future, showing us what happened to Johnny and Baby. The ending saw that the couple didn't end up together, unlike what fans had been expected. Baby went to see "Dirty Dancing" on Broadway in 1975, choreographed by Johnny, who later told her he got inspired by her book. Although they hadn't seen each other for a long time, the two still flaunted a good chemistry, all until Baby's daughter ran into the theater. Her daughter later was soon followed by Baby's husband, Charlie.

The surprising ending clearly made some fans loath the small-screen remake. Some joked that it was such a huge relief that the late Patrick was no longer with them to have witnessed what was done to his role. @JoeDillrd wrote on Twitter, "Somebody needs to put this whole movie in the corner..." Meanwhile, @susiebowpitt tweeted a sarcasm remark, "This movie is going to win an award. And by award, I mean for the category 'Worst remake of the best movie ever' #DirtyDancing."

Twitter users even created some hilarious memes to express their opinion on the remake.

However, star Sarah Hyland came to the remake's defense. "We did not take filming that scene lightly and wanted to do it justice. I hope it brought awareness to those who watch. #DirtyDancing," she explained on Twitter.

Wayne Blair directed the ABC remake, while Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton) choreographed. The remake featured songs from the original "Dirty Dancing" as well as additional musical performances.
