While Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as the titular super-assassin, it's still unknown whether Chad Stahelski will return in the director's seat.

AceShowbiz - Fans of "John Wick" may breath a sight of relief as "John Wick 3" is currently in the pre-production process. Speaking to Collider, director Chad Stahelski shares some details about the "John Wick: Chapter 2" sequel and says that the script is currently being written.
"Yeah-we're currently in the middle of writing it right now," says Stahelski. When asked about when "John Wick 3" may start filming, Stahelski says, "It's more of a how fast can we get our s**t together. But I would assume that if not by the end of this year, the beginning of next year."
It's still unknown, however, whether or not Stahelski will return in the director's seat. Keanu Reeves, meanwhile, will reprise his role as the titular character in the sequel. "Currently I'm acting as prep director," explains Stahelski. "Hopefully everything will work out time wise."
Of what direction Stahelski wants to take for the third movie, he says, "We're very comfortable with where we want [John Wick] to go in the third one and what Keanu wants to do. If you really watch the first and second one, there's only one place it can go-so I'll let you sort that out."
Stahelski also explains that there will be more revelations related to John Wick's back story, but they will only come from action rather than exposition. "It's not about you finding a hidden book or a secret map about who John Wick is," says Stahelski. "Anyone watching can start piecing it together. You know he's had some serious training. Was it military? Ehh-he kind of looks military. Where's he from? Well-he speaks all these languages. We're giving you the pieces and I think it's always good."
"John Wick 2" followed retired super-assassin John Wick, who planned to resume a quiet civilian life, but then an Italian gangster showed up and compelled him to repay past favors. The movie ended with a huge cliffhanger which made fans want more. "John Wick 2" was made with $40 million and earned a pleasant $166.8 million at worldwide box office.
