'Charlie's Angels' Reboot Gets a June 2019 Release Date

The reboot is directed by 'Pitch Perfect' actress Elizabeth Banks and is set to be released in the U.S. on June 7, 2019.

AceShowbiz - The release date of "Charlie's Angels" reboot has been unveiled. Directed by Elizabeth Banks ("Pitch Perfect"), the reboot is set to hit U.S. theaters on June 7, 2019, with Banks also producing the movie via her Universal-based Brownstone Productions.

According to The Tracking Board, Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard have been tapped to rewrite the project. It is also reported that "Hidden Figures" and "Moonlight" star Janelle Monae is included in the top list of the actresses who may play one of the angels.

"Charlie's Angels" began as a TV show which was running from 1976 to 1981. The series starred Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd. Two "Charlie's Angels" movie adaptations, titled "Charlie's Angels" and "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle", were released in 2000 and 2003 respectively, featuring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu as the lead actresses. The second movie added Demi Moore, who portrayed the villain.

The first "Charlie's Angels" movie follows a trio of elite private investigators "armed with the latest in high-tech tools, high-performance vehicles, martial arts techniques and an array of disguises." They "unleash their state-of-the-art skills on land, sea and air to track down a kidnapped billionaire-to-be and keep his top-secret voice-identification software out of lethal hands. They're beautiful, they're brilliant, and they work for Charlie."
