Chris Cornell, Vocalist of Soundgarden and Audioslave, Dies at 52 of Possible Suicide

The lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave was found dead in the bathroom after a concert in Detroit.

passed away. The frontman of and died on Wednesday, May 17 after doing a show with Soundgarden at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan. The cause of his death is still unclear but it's investigated as a possible suicide.

The Grammy-winning rocker was only 52 years old. He's survived by his wife Vicky and three children. He was reportedly found lifeless by a friend in the bathroom of his hotel room after his wife called and asked the friend to check on him.

"His wife, Vicky, and family were shocked to learn of his sudden and unexpected passing, and they will be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause," Soundgarden's rep said. "They would like to thank his fans for their continuous love and loyalty and ask that their privacy be respected at this time."

Prayers and condolences flooded the internet from fans and fellow musicians. tweeted, "Shocked and saddened by the sudden death of @chriscornell. A great singer, songwriter and the loveliest man." wrote, "RIP Chris Cornell."

joined the mourners, "I am so saddened by Chris Cornell passing. @soundgarden Total shock. Great man. Great band. Great loss. Love to everyone in his world. You will be missed." Joe Perry posted a similar tweet, "Very sad news about Chris Cornell today. A sad loss of a great talent to the world, his friends and family. Rest In Peace."
