Crudup is still firmly attached to play the father of Ezra Miller's Barry Allen despite the previous report of him dropping out of the project.

New report emerges following the previous report that Sam Raimi was shortlisted to direct "". According to Entertainment Weekly, Raimi has passed on the prospect of directing the movie.

The project reportedly eyed Marc Webb ("") as well, but it seems like he is off the table, just like Raimi. Robert Zemeckis and Matthew Vaughn, meanwhile, are reportedly still the frontrunners to helm the film centering on the Scarlet Speedster.

It was also reported that dropped out of the project. However, The Hollywood Reporter has clarified that Crudup is still on board to play Barry Allen's () father. Crudup has been involved with the project since September 2016.

As for Zemeckis and Vaughn, Variety reports that the two "have always been the leading candidates, though each has his own hurdle to overcome to land the job." Zemeckis is currently focusing on his -starring untitled Universal film, which is set to begin filming in August. Vaughn, meanwhile, has a plan to make "" following the release of "" this fall.

Since director Rick Famuyiwa exited the project, "The Flash" production has been put on hold. In addition, Miller will soon be busy filming "". Warner Bros. decided to work on a new script while also searching for Famuyiwa's replacement.

"The Flash" new draft is written by Joby Harold, who wrote "". Meanwhile, will play Barry Allen's love interest Iris West.

Vaughn is no stranger to directing comic book movies. He helmed "", "", "" as well as its sequel. Zemeckis is well-known for directing "" franchise and last directed -starring "".
