The network has officially announced the 'Chained to the Rhythm' songstress as the first judge on the revived singing competition.

AceShowbiz - Katy Perry will perch on one of the judges' chairs on "American Idol" revival on ABC. During ABC's upfront presentation in New York, the network has officially announced the "Bon Appetit" singer as the first judge to be featured on the singing competition.

ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said, "We are thrilled to be ushering in this new era of 'American Idol' with Katy leading the charge. Her incredible accolades speak for themselves. We are so lucky to have this strong and talented woman help inspire and guide the next crop of artists as they pursue their dreams."

"I am honored and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the 'American Idol' tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talents with authentic personalities and real stories," Katy said in a statement, before adding, "I'm always listening to new music, and love discovering diamonds in the rough - from mentoring young artists on my label, or highlighting new artists on my tours, I want to bring it back to the music."

Katy, who recently announced her new Album "Witness" and tour dates, took to Twitter to share the exciting news. "SO thrilled @ABCNetwork is bringing back @AmericanIdol, and I'm bringing it back to the MUSIC (eyes emoticon) you at auditions!" so she tweeted along with a photo of herself with "American Idol" logo at the background.

Rumor has it that ABC also eyes Chris Daughtry, Timbaland and Fantasia Barrino to join Katy as the judges, since the network wants to bring four judges instead of three for its reboot. However, there is no official statement yet regarding the three stars' casting rumor.
